DISCUSSION REGARDING MOUNTING PLATES FOR COMBINED ROLLER BEARINGS-

DISASSEMBLY & RE-ASSEMBLY OF COMBINED ROLLER BEARING.

The idea that mounting plates for our combined roller bearings are essential has crept into being. They are NOT essential.

In most cases the bearings can be mounted onto existing fixtures, framework or other channel sections.

Using a mounting plate does increase cost so why use them?

The main reason is that it is thought in some quarters easier to dismount the bearing for replacement or maintenance.

This may be true, but it is not the whole truth.

If our combined roller bearing is welded by its stub axle directly onto a fixed frame member it can still be taken apart and the wear parts

can still be replaced at a future date, without using a mounting plate - here is how it is done:

1. Unscrew the 2 or 4 hex insert allen screws on the front plate of the bearing - the plate + the radial bearing will now slide off the

stub axle. CLICK TO SEE PHOTO

CARE! MAKE SURE THAT THE RADIAL BEARING IS COMPLETE WITH ITS INNER RING - IF YOU CAN SEE

LOOOSE ROLLERS YOUV'E GOT A PROBLEM SO GENTLE FORCE AND CARE IS REQUIRED.

2. The radial bearing can now be replaced by buying another from us (comes as a complete assembly)

3. The axial bearing can be replace by pushing the shaft through from either side of the stuba axle. This bearing can be replaced.

4. Re-assemble the new radial bearing + plate onto the stub axle and insert the 2 or 4 screws using Loctite Studlock to secure.

Using this system, mounting plates are not essential.

But there are times (for example bearings that are in a dangerous or difficult access area) when mounting plates are useful to get

the bearing onto the workshop bench....
